Easy Meal: Turkey Meatballs
As you know, Cairn terriers tend to put on weight easily. Our CFO, Junka, is no exception! Summer is around the corner. It’s time to shed that winter weight. Here is the super easy, low cal, high fiber & high protein meal I created for my lovely puppies:
Green beans is a great low calorie way to fill up their tiny tummies. They also are a good source of fiber, vitamins C & K, and manganese. Coconut oil helps improve digestion and nutrient absorption. It also helps promote normal thyroid function, which in this case good for chubby Junka. I don’t use any seasoning, sugar or salt in any of my cooking for my dogs. Sugar & salt can create health issues for them, and, more important, their bodies don’t need those.
Ingredients
1lb Organic Ground Turkey
½ C Fresh Green Beans – cut crosswise
¼ C Flaxseed Meal
2 Tbsp Coconut Oil
1 Egg
Preheat oven to 350F
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, green beans & flaxseed meal. Mix well. Stir in coconut oil & egg, so they coat all the meat & vegetables.
Shape mixture into 1-inch balls. Place in a single layer on 13” x 9” baking dish.
Bake for 20-30 mins.

Porkchop is a 4 year old,
55lb female English Bull dog. She LOVES people, toys & walk time. This
adorable lady is also a fantastic listener, and 100% house broken. She
will let you know with a little bark when she would like to go potty. Porkchop
is very laidback and happy to go with the flow.

Chase is a Jack Russell
Terrier/Basenji mix. He’s about 3-4 years old and weighs 14 lbs. This tough
little guy is quite the clown. He's a real sweetie who loves to impress and
wiggle his tail feather. He's great with both people and dogs and just wants to
be part of the fun.
He
joined Bill Foundation after he
was attacked by another dog. Poor little guy!! He had a broken pelvis a
diaphragmatic hernia. After an intensive surgery to repair his diaphragm, Chase
is doing great. His pelvis has healed on its own and his overall long-term
prognosis is excellent.
.
Please contact Bill foundations, if you would like
to bring Chase home.

needs someone who can tell her “It’s forever this time." |
This lovely 7 year old Border Collie is named Tannah. She has bounced around quite a bit, from a shelter in Salt Lake City, then rescued but passed from home to home. Finally, she landed at Best Friends Animal Society.
Tannah loves affection. She enjoys running, hiking, and playing fetch, so she will be a great companion for an active person. She may not be so fond of other dogs. But, on-leash, she is a perfect lady who can walk alongside another dog just fine.

Doggie Language
Have you heard of Lili
Chin? She is an amazing pet portrait artist and illustrator. “Doggie Language”
is the title of one of her dog training illustrations. Besides being an
illustrator, Lili Chin is also an remarkable fundraiser. She started The DOGGIE
DRAWINGS project in 2008 to raise money for BostonBuddies, a non-profit Boston Terrier rescue organization in
Southern California from which she adopted her blue-eyed Boston Terrier Boogie.
In the beginning, she donated 100% of her proceeds from her dog portraits to
rescue. Isn’t that incredible? So far she has raised almost $10,000 for BostonBuddies.
Someday, we hope that
Yappy Bones will be able to raise that much money for animal rescue
organizations….

Home for Lovely Pups: Things to consider before adopting a dog
·
Knowledge: such as dog breed,
housebreaking, training, behavioral problems, and daily care of a dog. What
kinds of dogs are best for you and your family?
·
Lifestyle: travel
schedule, work hours, and social life. If one or more of these factors take up
the majority of your time, ask yourself ‘are you willing to make changes to
accommodate a dog in your life?’ If the answer is ‘no’, may be now is not the
right time for you to adopt a dog.
·
Financial stability: having a dog comes with the price. The
adoption fee, food, leash & carriers, toys, annual vet exams, vaccinations,
monthly heartworm preventative, flea control, unexpected medical costs, pet
insurance, grooming, training, dog sitting and boarding, all of which can cost
roughly $1,000 - $3,000 a year, even for a healthy dog.
·
Time: Do you have enough time to
provide and exercise a dog’s daily need? Love alone is not enough. Each dog
needs a different amount of exercise, depending on breed & age. However,
all dogs need at least half-hour walk every day.
Junka, Houby & I are
out for at least a 20 minute-walk, 4 times daily. On a beautiful day we enjoy
our extra-long morning walk around the park or an hour stroll around our
neighborhood in the afternoon.
·
Commitment: Besides walking and
exercising, a new dog needs love and other basic care such as obedience
training, grooming, and veterinary care. A puppy will need more exercise,
supervision and training than an adult dog. Sometimes rescue dogs or shelter
dogs require a little more help to adjust to their new home. This could take a
few days or it could take months. And, most important, committing to a dog
means committing for their entire life. Junka, like most Terriers, needed more time potty training than other breeds.
Our first year together, I spent lot of time & energy setting up the house
rules & training him. Needless to say, it’s all worth it. I wouldn’t trade
him for anything in the world.
