Let’s
meet the newest Manhattan district attorney's executive office employee, Bear!
Bear
is the beautiful 4 year old chocolate Labrador retriever who has been employed
as a therapy dog. Bear had an extensive training in Puppies Behind Bars program. The program
trains prison inmates to raise service dogs for wounded war veterans, and also
explosive detection canines for law enforcement.
Bear’s
last patriotic assignment was as a service dog for a veteran. One of the
commands Bear has been taught is 'Salute' - sitting up & raising his right
paw to his head.
The
District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr. said Bear is going to work in the battle
against domestic violence, elder abuse and child abuse. He will be work
directly with those who need emotional comfort when they come to the Manhattan
DA's office. One of the new commands he learned for his new duty is 'Tell me a
story' which lets Bear know to come up and put his head on your lap.
